Kalymnos Port

Kalymnos port is the main harbor and is situated on the island’s southeastern coast. Surrounded by large hills, it is a picturesque port that lies within walking distance from the center of Pothia and the main sights.

Located in the heart of the Dodecanese, Kalymnos is well-connected with a number of other nearby islands of the Dodecanese, such as Rhodes, Kos, Patmos, Leros, Nisyros and Lipsi, via frequent ferry crossings. Moreover, it receives regular connections from Athens (Piraeus), as well as from some other destinations in the Cyclades and the Eastern Aegean.

The ferry companies that operate routes from Athens and other Greek islands to Kalymnos are Blue Star, Dodekanisos Seaways and ANE Kalymnou.

Public Buses
Public buses are a convenient and affordable way of moving around Kalymnos when traveling on a budget. The central bus terminal is located right at the port exit, opposite the Municipal Tourist Office and the Port Authority building, within 100 meters from the pier. From there, you can take the bus to many of the major villages and beaches, such as Elies, Kantouni, Myrties, Massouri, Emporio, Argos, Vlychadia and Vathy. However, there is no direct bus route between the main port and Kalymnos National Airport. The frequency of the bus itineraries depends on the destination, ranging from 1 to 7 routes a day, and tickets can be purchased directly from the bus driver.

Taxis
Though taxis are an expensive option in comparison to buses, they are a faster and more flexible alternative, especially since the distance between Pothia and some of the major villages is not too great. Currently, they are the only way to get from the airport to the main town. Taxis can be found in every central spot, including Kalymnos Port, but, for greater convenience, you can also book a taxi by calling on any of the following numbers: 0030 22430 50300, 0030 22430 22000, 0030 694 4337687, 0030 698 5602490.

Car Rentals
Renting a car is one of the most convenient ways to move around the island with greater freedom and make your own itinerary without having to rely on buses or taxis. Having your own car will give you the chance to access hidden gems you would not be able to reach in any other way. Around Kalymnos Port, you will find several car rental agencies.

It is also good to know that larger hotel complexes may also offer shuttle service to and from the port. To arrange a port transfer (if available), you should contact your accommodation prior to arrival. This service is usually available at an additional charge, but, in some cases, it may be available for free.

Facilities

The main port of Kalymnos is conveniently located close to the town center of Pothia, so it offers all the necessary facilities, from shops, taverns, cafes and bars to accommodations and car or boat rentals.
At Kalymnos Port, you can also find ticket offices where you can get your pre-booked ferry tickets if your company does not offer web check-in, or buy them on-site.

A taxi is a convenient form of transport, allowing visitors to reach other nearby destinations with greater ease, regardless of the time of day.
