Kalymnos Myrties village

General information

Named after the profuse myrtle bushes embellishing the area, the lovely village of Myrties lies 11 kilometers northwest of Pothia, the capital and main port of Kalymnos. Imposing hills rise behind this picturesque settlement, creating a fabulous backdrop and offering hundreds of rock climbing routes that make Myrties a true heaven for rock climbing enthusiasts. Prominent among them is the much-photographed Grande Grotta, an imposing cave boasting large stalactites and sublime views of Telendos island.

Along the seafront, visitors will see lovely whitewashed houses cropping up here and there, surrounded by lush trees. The village is ideal for a long walk, during which you will find a few accommodations, as well as several cafes and taverns serving delicious meals.

Boasting crystalline azure waters, the main beach of Myrties ranks among the very best on the island and is a perfect spot for swimming. The highlight, however, is the enchanting islet of Telendos, which lies just opposite Myrties and is connected to the village via water taxis on a regular basis. These boats also serve groups of visitors who wish to reach the climbing spot.
