Kalymnos Massouri village

General information

Massouri is a picturesque settlement and one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island. It is located 10 km northwest of Pothia, the capital of Kalymnos, and is easily accessible through the local bus service. It also lies in proximity to the lovely Myrties Village.

Imposing hills rise over the entire settlement that is built along a natural bay. Massouri displays a traditional layout with old buildings and churches that reflect the long history of the village. The small church of Agios Ioannis is worth a visit while in the area, distinguished by its impressive, all-white bell tower. Beautiful whitewashed houses climb the steep hills offering some of the best views of the mountain surroundings and the azure waters of the sea.

While Massouri has maintained its traditional identity, it has also become a tourist hub, hosting a plethora of modern facilities. Here you will find a variety of shops, bars, and seaside cafes. Many restaurants are available, serving everything from Greek to international dishes, as well as plenty of accommodation options that overlook the glistening sea.

Massouri Beach is among the busiest beaches on the island, featuring golden sand, azure waters, and many amenities. It also offers beach-goers the opportunity to partake in watersports, including canoeing. Just opposite the beach lies the gorgeous islet of Telendos, which can be reached by small boats departing from Massouri and Myrties. The islet boasts an untamed natural landscape that is densely covered by verdant pine and cypress forests.

The surrounding limestone cliffs make this an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Many paths run through the rugged hills and mountainous terrain that dominate the area, allowing you to explore these natural wonders while enjoying breathtaking views of the island. The region has become a mecca for climbers from around the globe and hosts plenty of mountain climbing centers, offering lessons to beginners and all the necessary equipment for a safe climbing expedition.
