Zakynthos Agalas

General information

Agalas is a small mountain village on the west coast of the island, surrounded by pine trees and some olive groves. The village stands out for its architecture including old stone houses and narrow streets.

As a starting point from here, you can take brilliant walks in the surrounding nature. The area is home to the Cave of Damianos which is filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The Andronios Wells, 12 stone wells all built in traditional style and still providing daily fresh water, is another attraction in the area.

The village itself has a church with an old bell tower. Next to it is the vivid blue art gallery and museum which features the work of a local artist. Hiking towards the west coast, you can have wonderful views over the Ionian Sea and it is a nice spot to watch the sunset at the end of the day.

Heading north towards the village of Volimes you will come to a turnoff to this rather small village. Only a few visitors make it down this road, as this is a hidden and rural place.
