General information

Zakynthos Agalas: Agalas is a small mountain village on the westcoast of the island, surrounded by pine trees and some olive groves. Heading north towards the village of Volimes, beyond Lithakia, you will come to a turnoff to this rather small village. Only few visitors make it down this road, as this is a real hidden and rural place. The architecture of Agalas distinguishes for the old stone houses and the narrow streets.

As a starting point from here, you can take brilliant walks in the surrounding nature, for example to the Cave of Damianos. This two storey cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Also in the area of Agalas there are the Andronios Wells, 12 stone wells all built in traditional style and still providing daily fresh water. The village itself has a church with old bell tower. Next to it is the vivid blue art gallery and museum which features the work of a local artist. Hiking towards the west coast, you can have wonderful views over the Ionian sea and it is a nice spot to watch the sunset at the end of the day.
