General information

The village of Volimes is located 31.5 km northwest of Zakynthos Town. It consists of two villages: Ano (Upper) Volimes and Kato (Lower) Volimes both found around an agricultural area. Volimes is a scenic mountainous village that maintains its traditional character and layout. It is still a very rural area and most of the village has been untouched by tourism. To the east side, you will find quite a few cafes.

The village displays numerous stone-built houses and old churches that have survived the earthquake of 1953. One of the main ones is the church of Agia Paraskevi, which houses beautiful icons and frescoes. The old windmills that stand on the hill are also a sign from the past. You can also visit the 16th-century monastery of Agios Georgios Krimnon.

In close distance from Volimes is the famous Shipwreck, an impressive cove with crystalline waters and soft sand. The Shipwreck Bay can be reached only by boat but there is a spot above the village where you can look down at the beach.

Keeps tradition alive

Volimes is a great village to see the traditional side of Zakynthos. Short houses, nice figures and small alleys. At Volimes, there was a very nice lady that treated us rose spoon sweet and gave us a big smile to fare well. I hope she is fine. All houses were stone, some attached one to another and had beautiful gardens. Have a Greek coffee at the traditional cafeteria in the square. Mr Panagiotis cooks the best Greek coffee ever!
