One day in Syros: Ermoupolis and Ano Syros
Ermoupolis, the capital of Syros, used to be a rich trade center in the past, which is depicted today in its wonderful architecture. The elegant mansions with the Venetian style and the Neoclassical buildings of Ermoupolis come in contrast to the traditional Cycladic architecture of the other villages on Syros.
The highlight of Ermoupolis is Miaouli Square, where you can see the impressive Town Hall. The most picturesque neighborhood of Ermoupolis, Vaporia, is great to walk around.
Later on, go to Ano Syros, a nice village almost attached to Ermoupolis. From the square of Ano Syros, you get the best view of Ermoupolis and the busy port. This is the coffee spot with the best view on the island.
In the afternoon, go for a swim in Kini, a sandy beach about 10 km east of Ermoupolis. Lovely taverns and cafeterias can be found by the beach and many tourist facilities. This beach is organized but generally, it remains calm.
1st day as described above.
A very popular tourist resort in Syros is Galissas, a sandy organized beach on the western side of the island. This beach has beach bars and cafeterias that stay open from early in the morning till the evening.
After a swim in Galissas, head south to Finikas and Poseidonia, two fishing villages with nice beaches to swim and fishing taverns to enjoy traditional dishes.
1st and 2nd days as described above.
On the third day, head south to Vari, about 8 km from Ermoupolis. This is a seaside, tourist village with a sandy beach. Then, continue to Megas Gialos, another organized beach with shallow, clean water.
