Amorgos for how many days? One to Three days

Amorgos is the perfect island to lay back and relax under the hot Greek sun. With plenty of isolated beaches and a wild landscape, Amorgos amazes its visitors and wins their hearts at first sight.

One day: Chora and the Monastery of Hozoviotissa

Chora, the capital of Amorgos, is a lovely traditional village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill. Its white houses, the narrow paths and the beautiful views to the Aegean from the Venetian Castle captivate visitors. Have a morning coffee in the square and watch the locals and tourists passing by.

Then, head to Agia Anna, one of the most beautiful and isolated beaches on the island. A small church stands aside and although the beach is a bit pebbled, the landscape is wonderful. This beach became world-famous when the film The Big Blue by Luc Besson was filmed there.

In the afternoon, when the atmosphere is cooler, you go visit the Monastery of Hozoviotissa, one of the oldest and most beautiful Byzantine monasteries in Greece. You will have to do some trekking to go there and climb up a few stairs, so it is better if you go a couple of hours before sunset. The monastery is built right on the slopes of a giant, rocky mountain and looks very impressive.

Two days: Aegiali

1st day as described above.
Amorgos has mainly two tourist villages: Aegiali and Katopola. These villages also work as the main ports on the island. Aegiali in the north is a small, traditional village with many tourist facilities and a nice, large beach. Close to Aegiali, there is another beautiful village named Tholaria which gives wonderful views to the Aegean, as it is built on top of a hill. The surrounding area is gorgeous for some trekking.

Three days: Katapola

1st and 2nd days as described above.
On the third day, visit Katapola, the other tourist village of Amorgos, located about 6 km from Chora. It has traditional architecture and a lovely beach with clean water. There are some tourist facilities in Katapola and nice fishing taverns by the beach. Nature is beautiful around Katapola. From this port, small boats leave and transfer tourists to Maltezi and Plakes, a couple of beautiful and remote beaches.
