ABOUT THE 2 PORTS OF AMORGOS
Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali. Both ports operate with passenger ferries connecting Amorgos with Athens and other islands.
Katapola is located in the midsouth part of the island and is very close (6km,12 min. drive) to Chora, the Capital town.
Aegiali is located in the north part of the island. It is a well-developed settlement with a sandy beach, many touristic facilities, hotels and shops. The traditional village of Tholaria is only 3,3km away.
Blue Star ferries and Express Skopelitis operate with both ports of Amorgos while high-speed Seajet ferries arrive and depart only from Katapola. Also, Katapola is connected with Athens by ferry on a daily basis with 1 or 2 ferry crossings, while Aegiali is connected with Athens by ferry with 4 ferry crossings per week. Furthermore, the port of Katapola connects Amorgos with Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos and the Small Cyclades islands with daily ferries while Aegiali connects Amorgos only with Paros and Naxos on a weekly basis. Astypalaia and the Small Cyclades islands are also connected with Aegiali port by ferry.
Overall, Katapola is slightly a busier port but Aegiali is a popular destination too. Choosing which port of Amorgos to use for your travel depends on the ferry and ticket availability for the dates requested as well as the location of your accommodation. Note that the distance between the two ports is 25 km which is 40min. drive. In any case, when booking your tickets to Amorgos, make sure to check which port you will be travelling to/from.
