BEST HOTELS BY LOCATION
The most popular locations for Amorgos hotels are Chora, Aegiali, and Katapola.
This is where the vast majority of lodgings are found on Amorgos and the most convenient locations to seek for a place to stay.
These three villages are very different and each location has its own charm.
The main options that you should expect to find on the island are mainly small hotels, rooms to let, bnbs, and a limited number of luxury hotels. Only a small number of hotels propose a swimming pool.
Hotels in Chora, the capital
Our recommendations:
Vorina Ktismata (luxury), Oasis
Chora is the capital of Amorgos and is located on its mainland at a height of 400m.
It has a Venetian castle "Kastro" (castle), some very old windmills and of course, the village has a very well-preserved traditional architecture with whitewashed cubic houses and narrow alleys.
During evening hours, it gets vivid due to the numerous restaurants, small taverns, and bars.
The central bus station of the island is located here and buses depart for various villages and beaches on the island.
It is considered a convenient place to book your lodging if you want to avoid a car rental.
Many rooms to let and guesthouses are found in the narrow streets and the small squares of Chora.
Hotels in Katapola (Main Port)
Our recommendations:
Amorgos Pearls (luxury), Villa Katapoliani, Aegean of Amorgos, Amorgion Hotel
Katapola is one of the ports of Amorgos. It is located on the west side of the island almost 6km down the hill from Chora.
It is a quaint village with many facilities, restaurants, and cafes. Its proximity to Chora as well as to Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery which is the landmark of the island, and the beaches of the west and south part of the island (Agia Anna, Maltezi, and Plakes) is what makes Katapola a popular destination for lodging.
There is a bus stop here as well that can take you to Chora or other villages and beaches too.
You can also take boat tours to some secluded beaches and a ferry for a day visit to nearby islands of the "Small Cyclades Complex".
In Katapola, you will find a plethora of options and there is a camping operation as well.
Hotels in Aegiali
Our recommendations:
Aegialis Hotel and spa (luxury), Muses, Pano Gitonia, Plori studios, Miké Hotel, Filoxenia Hotel
Last but not least, Aegiali is the port of Amorgos which is located on the North of the island. Its distance from Chora is a 30-minute drive and has a very different setting.
It has a beautiful sandy beach while maintaining a more cosmopolitan atmosphere compared to other villages on the island.
Aegiali offers some luxury hotel options and is ideal for families travelling with children who want to stay in close proximity to a nice and organized beach.
