BEST HOTELS BY LOCATION

The most popular locations for Amorgos hotels are Chora, Aegiali, and Katapola.
This is where the vast majority of lodgings are situated on Amorgos Island and the most convenient locations to seek a place to stay.
These three villages are very different and each location has its own charm.

The main options that you should expect to find on the island are mainly small hotels, rooms to let, B&Bs, and a limited number of luxury hotels. Only a small number of hotels propose a swimming pool.

Hotels in Chora, the capital

Our recommendations:
Vorina Ktismata (luxury), Oasis

Chora is the capital of Amorgos and is located at a height of 400m on the mainland's center.
It has a Venetian castle (Kastro), some very old windmills and, of course, a very well-preserved traditional architecture with whitewashed cubic houses and narrow alleys.
During evening hours, it gets vivid due to the numerous restaurants, small taverns, and bars.
The central bus station of the island is located here and buses depart for various villages and beaches on the island.
It is considered a convenient place to book your lodging if you want to avoid car rental.
Many rooms and guesthouses are in the narrow streets and small squares of Chora.

Hotels in Katapola (Main Port)

Our recommendations:
Amorgos Pearls (luxury), Villa Katapoliani, Aegean of Amorgos, Amorgion Hotel

Katapola is the main port of Amorgos. It is located on the west side of the island, almost 6 km down the hill from Chora.
It is a quaint village with several facilities, restaurants, and cafes. Its proximity to Chora as well as to Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery, the landmark of the island, and the beaches of the west and south part of the island (Agia Anna, Maltezi, and Plakes) is what makes Katapola a popular destination for lodging.
There is a bus stop here as well so you can hop on a bus to get to Chora or other villages and beaches.
You can also take boat tours to some secluded beaches and a ferry for a day visit to the nearby islands of the Small Cyclades complex.
In Katapola, you will find a plethora of options regarding accommodation. The area hosts a camping site as well.

Hotels in Aegiali

Our recommendations:
Aegialis Hotel and spa (luxury), Muses, Pano Gitonia, Plori studios, Miké Hotel, Filoxenia Hotel

Last but not least, Aegiali is the port of Amorgos which is located on the northern side of the island. Its distance from Chora is a 30-minute drive and has a very different setting.
It has a beautiful sandy beach and maintains a more cosmopolitan atmosphere compared to other villages on the island.
Aegiali offers some luxury hotel options and is ideal for families traveling with children who want to stay in proximity to a nice and organized beach.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

When should I book my hotel?

In principle, you will not have trouble finding hotels in Amorgos. Of course, if you are traveling in mid-July/August it is recommended to have completed your reservation already by May since it is the busiest time of the year and hotels are fully booked.

Where should I book?

Greeka.com is an online traveling guide about Greece and the Greek islands operating since 1999. We have hand-picked the top hotels and have included and presented them on our website. By clicking the “Book online” button, you will either, in case of affiliate links*, be redirected to Booking.com and booking.com will handle your reservation or, in case of sponsored links, you will be redirected to the official hotel website, where the hotel will handle the reservation. In both cases, there is no extra fee charged to you for this. *Booking.com pays us a small commission for every booking, which helps us to continue our qualitative work and provide you with the best information possible.

Is there another way to make a reservation?

You can contact the hotel by phone or e-mail. In some cases, you might find some cheaper rates but it is not recommended.

When is the best time to visit?

Amorgos is a very tranquil island. We believe that the best period to visit the island is late June to early September. August is the busiest month on the island with many local feasts taking place (panigiria) in the villages. Still, it upholds its lovely laid-back atmosphere.

Will I find last-minute availabilities?

Don’t wait until the last minute if you are traveling during the high season. You might find something that will be overcharged, in bad condition, or in a non-convenient location.

What types of accommodation are available there?

You can basically find all kinds of types. More specifically, there are typical hotels, rooms to let, B&Bs, camping sites, and there is a small number of luxury hotels and suites, too.

Is Amorgos expensive?

No, Amorgos is not considered an expensive destination. There are some luxury options but this is not the rule on this particular island.

How much does accommodation cost?

Depends on many factors. An average estimation without including Luxury options, for 2 persons would be around 50-100 euros/per night in high season.

Which are the best locations if you are traveling on a budget?

You can find cheap options (30-50 euros) in Chora and Katapola, as well as in less popular villages. Note that there are two campings operating on the island - one in Katapola and one in Aegiali.

How many days should I stay there?

Four (4) days is considered a good time to discover the island. Of course, if you want to visit the place to unwind and lose track of the time, you can stay much longer.

Which are the best locations for a family with children?

Aegiali and Katapola are popular among families traveling with kids.
