Poros Things to Do

The small town of Poros features an array of small alleyways, filled with history, that can be traversed on foot. The houses are mostly built with white limestone, and their roofs are made of red bricks. This unique architecture, paired with the blooming purple bougainvillea bushes, turns Poros into an image straight out of a postcard!

Once you are in the town you can see the imposing Clock Tower of the town built on one of its highest points. You can also visit the island pair’s Archaeological Museum, with exhibits dating back to the Mycenaean era, approximately 3,000 years ago! Lastly, you can go shopping in the town’s various gift shops and concept stores.

Next to Love Bay Beach, one can also find the old Russian Dockyard, an organized sandy beach, in front of a landmark of Poros and a historical monument of Greece!

Poros offers some rare hiking opportunities, even though the island pair is not mountainous. Hiking enthusiasts can find ten different trails that will take them across Poros’ quiet villages and the most important points of interest.
One of these points is the ancient Temple of Poseidon in the northern part. These ruins date back to 520 BC and are an incredible example of ancient Greek architecture, in a location that is mostly defined by modern Greek history, rather than ancient times!

Despite Poros’ proximity to islands like Hydra and Aegina, visitors also have the opportunity to take excursions to the nearby islets and their serene beaches. These islets can be reached by a small boat, mostly from the main beaches of Poros.

Daskalio is a tiny heart-shaped islet across the Russian Dockyard Beach. Many visitors choose to hold weddings and other religious events there, because of its unique shape and its small chapel, surrounded by bushes and trees.

Another tiny islet of Poros is Bourtzi. This 7.4-acre plot of land has never had any residents, but it has been used as a prominent naval base since the time of the Byzantine Empire. Nowadays it holds a small abandoned fort and is free for all to visit.
