Poros Hiking

Hiking in Poros: Hiking is an ever-growing activity in Greece, with visitors opting to avoid its beaches and preferring to discover its countryside. Poros, even if it lacks a high mountainside, offers a wide selection of hiking trails that cross its engaging beaches and some of the island pair’s most important landmarks!

The trailing network consists of ten different trails with a total distance of 17.5 km, with none of the routes taking more than 1.5 hours to complete. Three of these routes are outside the two islands of Poros, close to the area of Galatas and Aliki Beach, opposite the main port. However, these areas are easy to reach and their trails take less than an hour to complete. Some trails are signposted, mostly at their start and end points, and most of the paths are discernible for hikers.

Trail 1: Port - Milos - Agioi Anargiroi

The first trail is a circular route, starting off at the main port of Poros. Through some of the main alleyways of the town, you can end up at a clear path, after passing by Milos, the ruins of a water mill above the old water tank of the island-pair. If you keep walking this path, you reach a forest area, just outside the town. By traversing through the forest, you will eventually reach the small chapel of Agioi Anargiroi and its incredible view. After a U-turn at the chapel, hikers end up on the other side of the main town, while admiring the view of the sea and the town itself.
Length: 2.9 km
Duration (without stops): 1 hour 30 minutes

Trail 2: Evangelistria - Agios Athanasios - Agioi Anargiroi

The second route is very similar to the first one, but this time hikers start at the Evangelistria church, on the south side of the main town, next to the Archaeological Museum. Following the trail of the old water tank, hikers reach the small white chapel of Agios Athanasios. From there the path is the same as the previous trail, reaching the chapel of Agioi Anargiroi. To end the trail, you can go back the same way you came, but turn left at the first crossroads to eventually reach the town and the Evangelistria church.
Length: 2.6 km
Duration (without stops): 1 hour 15 minutes

Trail 3: Circular route of Dana Lighthouse

This route combines the amazing view of a secluded beach, the blooming natural environment and an important landmark of Poros. The trail begins on the road just outside Gerolimani Beach. By crossing the beach until the end of the coastline, you can eventually reach a clear path that leads to Cape Akritsa. There, you can see the imposing Dana Lighthouse that beacons the arriving ships. From a narrow path next to the lighthouse, you will once again reach the starting point, after passing by a small olive grove.
Length: 2.5 km
Duration (without stops): 1 hour

Trail 4: Kiani Akti - Temple of Poseidon

The following trail starts off at the Kiani Akti area of the island of Kalavria, on its main road. A clear path can be seen, after following some local roads. Afterwards, you need to maneuver through a steep hillside, surrounded by a thin forest. By following the path, hikers reach the chapel of Profitis Ilias. Through the same path, you will eventually reach the final point of the trail, the ancient Temple of Poseidon.
Length: 2.1 km
Duration (without stops): 1 hour

Trail 5: Circular route in Vagionia

This trail begins at the beach of Vagionia and aims to reach a higher point of the area to give hikers a better view of the sea. From the beach, you ascend a small hill, where you can see the entire bay and Vagionia beach. After that, with some maneuvers through the plant life, you reach a small trail that leads back to the beach.
Length: 2.1 km
Duration (without stops): 1 hour

Trail 6: Cape Kokorelli

The trail reaches one of the most remote parts of the island pair in the east. It begins from the gap between the two mountaintops of Modi and Vigla. The goal is to reach the highest top of Cape Kokorelli by heading northeast, through some steep paths and thick pine forests. The trail is mostly signposted until the cape is discernible, from which the fencing forbids you from moving closer. The view across is the picturesque islet of Modi.
Length: 2 km
Duration (without stops): 1 hour

Trail 7: Ascend of Modi mountaintop

This trail is similar to the previous one, beginning from the same point, the gap between the two mountaintops. From there, you cross the pine forest and reach the opening just past Cape Kokorelli. By continuing to the right, you will be able to see some abandoned fields, before gazing upon an amazing view of the surrounding area.
Length: 935 m
Duration (without stops): 30 minutes

Trails 8 and 9: Trails in the Lemon Forest

There are two short trails available in the Lemon Forest, opposite the port of Poros, on the Peloponnese shore. One of them is circular, beginning at the chapel of Agios Serafim and reaching the Panagia Artimou chapel, before heading back to the start. The other trail begins at the Agios Serafim Chapel as well, but it passes by Panagia Artimou before reaching the main road and the view of Artemidas Bay.
Length: 1.9 km and 1 km
Duration (without stops): 45 minutes and 30 minutes

Trail 10: Circular trail in Aliki

This specific trail is outside the main two islands of Poros, close to Aliki Beach and the Lemon Forest. The trail starts from the main road, just outside the nearby lagoon. The trail continues around the lake, until you reach the edge of the cape, before turning around and continuing on the other side of the lake and back on the main road.
Length: 1.6 km
