Surfing in Greece
Surfing in Greece is fun and is getting more and more popular!
Surfing is one of the up and coming water sports in Greece and there are few surfing clubs scattered around the Greek islands!
In some Greek islands, such as Ikaria and Tinos, wind conditions create great conditions for waves, as the Greek summer winds, known as “Meltemia”, are frequent, especially in the afternoon hours. Moreover, having a sandy sea bottom and lack of sharks or other dangerous animals, the Greek seas are very safe not only for surfing but also for all kinds of water sports. The main places for surfing in Greece, where also surfing clubs are located, are Tinos, Ikaria, Santorini, some parts of Peloponnese and when the winds come from the south, you can surf at Vouliagmeni beach in Athens or Ayiassos on Naxos island.
In Greek surfing clubs you can rent the necessary surfing equipment and take courses for all levels, from kids and novices to experienced surfers.
