Location: Kolympithra

Until few years ago, you could hardly see any surfing scene in the Greek islands. Although the country has a coastline of 14,000 km, surfing had not been developed at all, except for some individual surfers who had their own equipment. However, recently the first surfing center in Cyclades islands opened in Tinos island, and particularly at the beach of Kolymbithres.

Kolymbithres beach is located on the northern side of the island facing directly the north Aegean Sea. The strong northern wind Meltemi that blows in summer months, particularly July and August, create great waves for surfing. Blowing at a speed of more than 5 on the Beaufort scale, this wind creates a great left wave and sometimes a smaller right.

Kolymbithra is also a safe beach with sandy bottom and no sharks. Tinos Surf Lessons was founded by local surfer John Vidalis. It offers surf tuition, surfboard rentals, and also other water sports equipment, like bodyboard, canoe, kayak and skimboard rentals. Kolymbithra beach is a fantastic place for all levels of surfers, even for beginners.
