The airport of Santorini is located 8 km far from Fira, the capital of the island, in the region of Monolithos/Kamari. It receives both domestic flights from Athens and Thessaloniki and in summer it also receives charters and direct flights from abroad. Many visitors actually arrive directly to Santorini from their country and then take the ferry to other islands. The flight time from Athens to Santorini is 45 min. Flying are the quickest way to organize your Santorini travel. They operate all year round and make it very easy to get to the island from Athens.
The main port of Santorini is Athinios, about 8 km from Fira. There are daily ferries from the port of Piraeus in Athens to Santorini. In summer, there are also ferries from Rafina, the other port of Athens, which is the closest port to the international airport of Athens. These ferries also connect Santorini to most islands of the Cyclades, few islands of Dodecanese and Crete (Heraklion port). Due to the frequency of ferry schedules, many visitors actually combine their visit to Santorini with hopping to other islands.
