Kythnos Festivals & Cultural Events

The local celebrations of Kythnos are major events in the lives of the inhabitants giving them a chance to practice their religious beliefs. Feasts are also excellent occasions to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of the island, dance till the early morning hours and eat delicious treats. Including a lot of feasting and drinking, the events of Kythnos island are very exciting. Once a year, festivals are held in honor of the Greek saints and locals revive old customs. Religious feasts & festivals

August 15th
On August 15th, on the feast day of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, many festivities take place in Kythnos, including the celebration of Panagia Kanala, Panagia Nikous, and Panagia Stratilatissa.

July 20th
On July 20th, there is the celebration of Prophet Ilias, with local feasts and music in the central square of Chora. It is a special occasion where hundreds of people arrive to enjoy the local delights, music, and dancing.

June 30th
On June 30th, there is the celebration of Agioi Apostoloi with local music and dances in Driopida.

Cultural events

Kythneia Festival
The municipality of Kythnos organizes every year a set of cultural events, called Kythneia Festival. They are held during summer, July and August, in Chora and include a list of events, art exhibitions, concerts, theatre performances, poetry nights, dancing and other shows ideal for all ages.

Sfougato
Another important festival is Sfougato which takes place every summer in Chora highlighting the gastronomic wealth of Kythnos, especially the cheese variety.
