Kythnos Church of Panagia Stratilatissa

The church of Panagia Stratilatissa (or Stratolatissa) lies around 6 km south of the picturesque Driopida. It is one of the three most renowned churches in Kythnos dedicated to the Virgin Mary, along with Panagia Kanala and Panagia Flampouriani.

Panagia Stratilatissa is one of the oldest churches in Kythnos. It is a domed basilica with an ancient column on the inside, that supports the impressive altar. A whitewashed chapel dedicated to Agia Anna (Saint Anne) is found next to the church.

Since it was built in honor of the Virgin Mary, the church celebrates on August 15th, the day of Her Dormition.
