The church of Panagia Flampouriani (the Virgin Mary of Flampouria) is located on the western side of Kythnos, on a rock dividing Flampouria Beach into two shores. Along with Panagia Kanala and Panagia Stratilatissa, it is one of three churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary considered to protect the island.
Panagia Flampouriani's location endows it with amazing sea views. Also, one can distinguish some footprints from the beach to the church. According to tradition, those belong to the Virgin Mary.
The church celebrates on August 23rd, 9 days after the Assumption of Mary. On that day, a panigiri is held and several pilgrims pay a visit.
