Amorgos Villages

Chora is the capital village of Amorgos and distinguishes for its traditional architecture, with white houses and a nice view of the sea. The other two main villages are Aegialis and Katapola, which also constitute the main tourist resorts of the island. Many hotels in Amorgos are located in these villages.

Chora
Location: In the centre of the island
Description: Surrounded by lovely windmills and preserving the traditional architecture, Chora is among the most picturesque village of Cyclades.

Katapola
Location: 6 km west of Chora
Description: Katapola is one of the two beaches of Amorgos (along with Aegiali) and it has developed as a popular tourist resort.

Aegiali
Location: 15 km north east of Chora
Description: Aegiali is a picturesque tourist village on the northern side of Amorgos. It has many accommodation options and fish taverns.

Tholaria
Location: 18 km north east of Chora
Description: Tholaria gives the most amazing view to the landscape of Amorgos and the sea. It is situated close to Aegiali.

Xilokeratidi (Katapola)
Location: 7 km west of Chora
Description: Xilokeratidi is a charming little settlement in the bay of Katapola with nice restaurants.

Lagada
Location: 20 km north of Chora
Description: Lagada is a tiny traditional village in close distance to Aegiali. It is surrounded by rocky mountainsides and lovely nature.

Arkesini
Location: 15 km south west of Chora
Description: This adorable village with the traditional architecture gives visitors a good view of rural life on Amorgos.

Kalofana
Location: 18 km south of Chora
Description: Kalofana is an agricultural village on the southern side of the island. The whitewashed houses are decorated according to the traditional style with colorful gardens.

Kalotaritissa Village
Location: 18 km south east of Chora
Description: This is not actually a village anymore but a small settlement. Most houses are ruined and abandoned in Kalotaritissa, which has a permanent population of 40 residents.

Kamari
Location: 10 km from Chora
Description: Kamari is a mountainous village that keeps its traditional character, with the charming stone houses and the beautiful flower yards.

Potamos
Location: 18 km from Chora
Description: Potamos is a traditional village with little population. It is built on the slopes of a hill, overlooking the bay of Aegialis, northern Amorgos.

Vroutsis
Location: 11 km from Chora
Description: Vroutsis is a small village located on a hill at the southeast of Amorgos. It is inhabited only by a handful of people who are mainly involved with fishing and cattle-breeding.
