General information

Kalofana in Amorgos is an agricultural village south of Chora. It has a two-digit number of inhabitants who are mainly occupied with cattle breeding and fishing. The whitewashed houses are spread in the village and decorated according to the Amorgian traditional style with colorful gardens. Together with the villages of Arkesini and Kalotaritissa, Kalofana is the main settlement on the southern side of Amorgos. The region is not touristically developed at all.

One of the biggest festivals of the Cyclades takes place in the church of Agia (Saint) Paraskevi near the village. Every year, on July 25th (the eve of the feast of the saint) pilgrims from all the islands flock to the church. The locals begin preparations days before the festival, which include peeling potatoes for the traditional patatato, slaughtering animals and kneading bread.
