  • Where is the ferry port in Lassithi?

The regional unit of Lassithi has two ports. The first one is that of Agios Nikolaos, and is located right in the region’s capital city. The other one, that of Sitia, is the most well-connected one and lies on the northeastern edge of the island, 60 kilometers from Agios Nikolaos and just 3 kilometers from the Sitia Public Airport Vitsentzos Kornaros. Agios Nikolaos Port may be connected with Sitia and Santorini, depending on the year, while Sitia Port is connected with Athens (Piraeus), Santorini, Rhodes, Karpathos and some other small islands of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.

  • How can I get from the port to the beaches?

Many of Lassithi’s best beaches are connected by local public buses (KTEL) to the ports of Sitia and Agios Nikolaos. The lovely Vai Beach, with its unique palm forest, is well connected to Sitia, while to get there from Agios Nikolaos, you will need to take the bus to Sitia and then take another line. Other resorts, like Istro and Makrigialos, are also reachable by bus, while Ammos (Agios Nikolaos) Beach is within walking distance from the center of Lassithi’s capital city. To explore the gorgeous beaches of Lassithi with greater freedom, without depending on bus itineraries, you can also rent a car.

  • How can I get from the airport to the port?

There is no bus service connecting Sitia Airport to the ports, so the only transport options are getting a taxi or renting a car.

  • What is better: flying or taking the ferry to Lassithi?

Sitia Airport is quite small and receives only seasonal charter flights, as well as a limited number of flights from some Greek cities. Thus, taking the ferry may be preferable. Alternatively, you can take the ferry to Heraklion, which is more regularly connected to a number of destinations, and proceed to Lassithi by bus or car.
