General information

Poros is an attractive coastal settlement located 40 km southwest of Argostoli. Today it has a population of about 1100 inhabitants. Built around a marvelous landscape of lush green forests, Poros is also home to a picturesque port that serves itineraries to Kyllini (Peloponnese).

The combination of dense and verdant vegetation along with the crystal blue sea makes this village one of the most perfect summer destinations. Apart from its beautiful landscape and traditional layout, Poros has become a famous tourist resort in Kefalonia welcoming a great number of tourists and Greek travelers during the summer. Plenty of restaurants and traditional taverns line the waterfront and picturesque cafes, while some hotels are also located in the region.

The village has important sights that one should definitely see. One of them is the impressive Drakena Cave and Poros Gorge, one of the most interesting gorges in Kefalonia. Also, the Monastery of Panagia Atros is worth visiting.

    Lovely walk from Poros
    Lovely walk from Poros.
    Well off the beaten track., Local taxis wouldn't go up the rough road, you'd need a 4 wheel drive.
    Quite a long steep walk from Poros but definitely worth it.
