From Western Greece, Ithaca and more

Reaching Kefalonia via ferry from Athens is unattainable as it is not very practical based on the island's location. However, it is achievable to do so from three regions on the mainland, all situated in Western Greece - Kyllini, Patra and Astakos.
Ferries departing from Kyllini arrive at the port of Poros while ferries from Patra and Astakos at the port of Sami. The fastest crossings are those from Kyllini (1.5 hours).
Kefalonia is also connected with the nearby Ithaca. Routes to Lefkada and Zakynthos are often available in the high season, too.
Seasonal routes from/to Italy (Bari) may are also available during summer.

Kefalonia International Airport (Anna Pollatou) connects the island with Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos), Preveza International Airport (Aktion Airport) and Zakynthos International Airport (Dionysios Solomos).
Since the island is a popular destination among holidaymakers from Greece and abroad alike, the airport receives flights from several European countries, including Italy, the UK, Austria, the Netherlands, etc.
The airport is located around 8 km from Argostoli - the capital of Kefalonia. You can go there by bus, car, or taxi.

You can travel to Kefalonia from other islands of the Ionian Sea. Ferries from Ithaca reach the island while smaller vessels may operate seasonal routes from Lefkada and Zakynthos. The latter also boasts an airport you can use to take a flight to Anna Pollatou Airport.
