Atlantis is the most famous mythological island of all time. Plato's writings about Atlantis are the only known records of its existence. In his dialogues, Timaeus and Critias, Plato mentions that the mythical city – falling out of favor with the Gods – is submerged into the ocean. There are many different hypotheses about the exact location of the lost city. However, the belief that Santorini was the original location seems to prevail, when considering the Thera eruption. As it caused a massive tsunami, the lost city could have been swallowed in its passing.
By visiting this museum you will have the chance to learn everything about the myth of Atlantis and how it is connected to Santorini island. Experience everything from the island’s volcanic eruption and earthquake to the tsunami and the life of Plato, with the use of the latest interactive technologies. Multiple digital installations, like 9D virtual reality, 3D holograms, and dioramas make this experience absolutely unique and fascinating.
Whether mythology and history excite you or not, don’t skip visiting the first museum in the world dedicated to the myth of Atlantis. Equipped with the latest technologies, the Lost Atlantis Experience Museum offers an all-senses journey to Santorini's history.
The Lost Atlantis Experience Museum is located close to Megalochori village.

Public transfers: In Megalochori village lies the 12th stop of the bus route Fira > Akrotiri. Once in Megalochori, Lost Atlantis Experience Museum is about a 7-minute walk away.
Fira is where the central bus station of the island is located. There are bus connections between this bus station and most areas of the island. There are buses to Akrotiri approximately every 1.5 hours. Consider that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here. Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination, so that he makes a stop there.
