If you choose public transport, there are many buses leaving from Chora to several villages and beaches of Naxos. It is the cheapest way to get around the island and enjoy a pleasant journey in some of the major spots like Agios Prokopios, Apollonas, Halki, Filoti, Koronos and Tripodes. During the summer there are frequent bus routes to assist as more visitors as possible. Moreover, with the bus, you have the chance to see the most popular beaches on the island, swim and enjoy the surrounding view.
Naxos suggests all means of transport in order to meet its natural beauties, visit the major sites and peaceful spots. Being the largest island of the Cyclades, Naxos provides an excellent road network that offers easy and safe access in all destinations.
There are many taxis in Naxos, usually waiting outside the port, the airport and at the central spots of Chora. They are far more expensive than the buses but they ensure more convenient transportation. Alternatively, you can also book your taxi online.
In case you are interested in visiting the nearby Koufonisia islands -ideal for a day trip- there is a small port in the southeastern part of the island (before Panermos Bay), from which a taxi boat depart. Notice that taxi boats can only be booked in advance.
With a car or motorcycle, you can enjoy the natural beauties of Naxos and have access to the most secluded spots and isolated coves. In case you do not have your private vehicle, it is an excellent idea to rent a car for your sightseeing trips. Keep in mind that some of the roads may be track and hard to access. For example, the road from Plaka and south is track.
