• How can I get to the main town from the airport?

The closest bus stop to the airport is called "Naxos Camping" and lies 600m away from the terminal building. Bus route 1 (Naxos Town > Plaka > Naxos Town) takes visitors to the central station, outside the port of Naxos. For the rest of the routes, you can't buy the tickets directly from the bus driver; however, visitors that board the bus after arriving on the island by plane should inform the driver, so that they can pay the fare after reaching Naxos Town.
A taxi rank lies outside the exit gate at the airport, as well as a few car rental desks. If you want to avoid public transport, it is highly recommended to book a transfer service or car rental in advance, especially if you plan on visiting during the summer. Car rental agencies can bring your vehicle to the airport upon prior request.
Having your transfer scheduled guarantees a cushy arrival and transportation.
Note that some accommodations provide transfers from the airport to their customers. Contact your hotel in advance and avail yourself of the shuttle service if available.

• How can I get to the main town from the Port?

The port of Naxos is located in Naxos Town. After exiting the port you will encounter the central KTEL bus station. There, you can purchase bus tickets and board a bus to several locations on the island. A taxi rank also lies outside the port.

• How can I get to the beaches?

A car rental allows you to visit many of the numerous beaches since the island boasts a plethora of both well-organized and remote beaches.
Bus routes to several beaches such as Agios Prokopios, Plaka, and Pyrgaki are available, too. You’ll have to take the bus from the central bus station at the port.
You may catch a taxi from the port, too, but during the high season, finding a free one may be challenging.

• Can I rely on public means of transport?

As Naxos has many permanent residents, the buses are reliable and reach many areas on the island. During the tourist season, itineraries are more frequent to serve the thousands of visitors. However, if you want to visit lesser-known spots on the island, renting a car is the best thing to do, since routes to remote villages are rare while some regions and beaches are not accessible by bus.

• Are the distances between the main town and the touristy spots long?

Naxos is a big island, so the distance between your accommodation and the places you want to visit can be either short or long. If you are staying in Naxos Town or one of the beach resorts on the east side (Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Maragas, etc.) and want to visit the mountain villages and wild beaches of the island, it may take up to 20,30, or more minutes to reach your destination. If you intend to explore Naxos, renting a car is highly recommended, as the bus routes to the non-touristy parts are scarce.
