Location: Plaka

The Church of Panagia Thalassitra in Milos, also known as the church of the Presentation of Jesus, is located in Plaka, the island's capital, and can be found on the way up to the castle. It was built in 1839, while its doorframe dates back to 1669, possibly coming from another building. Before its construction, a smaller chapel used to be situated in the same spot.

The building combines the traditional Cycladic architecture of white buildings with a beautiful stone bell tower, creating a charming contrast. On the inside, guests can admire artworks from the 17th century, including a wooden-carved iconostasis, as well as paintings created by the famous Greek Renaissance painter Emmanuel Skordilis.

Its name comes from the Greek word for the sea (thalassa) and explains its symbolism as the patron of sailors of Milos.

Panagia Thalassitra is one of the most photographed churches on the island due to its picturesque look. Additionally, its position on the hill provides an incredible view of the Aegean Sea and the Bay of Milos, certainly worth paying a visit to.
