Amorgos Church of Prophet Elias

Location: Chora

At an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level, one may spot the Church of Prophet Elias in Amorgos! Approachable via a difficult hike from the island’s Chora, this small-sized chapel is placed in a very windy spot. It is rumored to have the finest views of the island, given that you can see Chora, the port of Katapola, the Minoa Village, and the Aegean Sea, as well as lots of mountain goats!

This stone-built church boasts white-colored interior and exterior walls, while its main indoor attraction is its old, faded, yet beautiful couple of frescoes! Plus, visitors will find a handful of incense burners and gilded candelabras, as well as a small iconostasis. On top of that, the chapel hosts an annual celebration on the 20th of July!
