The history of Psiri dates back to the first years after the Greek War of Independence, when settlers arrived there from the countryside. However, the construction of the area started around the mid 19th century.
For many years, Psiri was nothing more than a typical working-class neighborhood that even had a bad reputation due to criminal activity.
The setting started to change during the 20th century and Psiri is now a well-developed and popular meeting point with a vibrant nightlife, featuring various taverns, bars, cafes, boutiques and art galleries with an authentic atmosphere.
