Location: Mandraki

The Monastery of Agios Nikolaos in Hydra is a remote structure over the village of Mandraki and Limnioniza Beach! It is said to have been founded in 1675, and its designated pathway offers fascinating views over the island’s vegetated and wild surroundings!

Agios Nikolaos hosts a Byzantine-style temple with an octagonal dome and icons dating back to the 17th century, as well as an imposing, gilded chandelier and a gorgeous iconostasis! Plus, it houses the sacred remains of some saints (such as Agios Konstantinos and Agios Grigorios Theologos) and a large outdoor well. The monastery was renewed after it was converted to a women-only monastery in 1983!
