Mykonos Ano Mera

General information

Ano Mera in Mykonos is the second bigger village after Chora (main town) and is one of the oldest villages of the island. It offers a few hotels and some rooms and studios for rent. It is a quiet village where locals continue their everyday life without being interrupted by a crowd of tourists as it happens in the capital.

Near Ano Mera lies the monastery of Panagia Tourliani whose main church houses a superb collection of icons made by a Cretan painter as well as holy vessels and vestments. The beautiful bell tower and marble fountain lie in the courtyard and are worth seeing.
Ano Mera also hosts some taverns along its main square, where you can taste traditional dishes at a normal cost. Cafes and pastry shops also lie around the square.

    Catch the sunset from Gizi
Ano Mera is the second largest village of Mykonos. Nothing to compare with the beauty of Chora, just a small village with white houses and a large square with traditional coffee houses. No great crowds, few rooms to rent and even fewer gift shops. Most hotels are located around Ano Mera. A nice trekking path is from Ano Mera to the Castle of Gizi, on a hill above the village. Go in the evening to catch the sunset. In the day, trekking will be very tiring. This part of Mykonos is really relaxing, not that crowded as the western spots and far from the big crowds.
