Taxis & private transfers

Taxis lie in the Main Town (Chora) of Mykonos, at the new port and the airport. In Chora, the taxi rank is located at the central square of Mykonos Town, right next to the statue of Manto Mavrogenous. Although a taxi is an expensive option compared to buses, it is definitely a comfortable mode of transport and takes you to your destination fast. • How can I get to the main town from the airport?

A bus stop lies outside the main terminal building. The bus route Airport > New Port takes visitors to Fabrika central station in the main town of Mykonos. You can buy the tickets directly from the bus driver - keep in mind that they only accept cash, though.
A taxi rank is also situated at the airport, as well as a few car rental desks. If you prefer avoiding public transport, it is highly recommended to book a transfer service or car rental in advance, especially if you are visiting during the high season. Car rental agencies can bring your vehicle to the airport premises upon request so that you can use it immediately.
Having your transfer arranged will save you from the hassle and allow you to not miss a minute of your vacation.
Note that several hotels offer a shuttle service to their guests, so make sure to contact your accommodation in advance.

• How can I get to the main town from the Port?

A bus stop lies outside the New Port of Mykonos. Two routes head to the main town - New Port > Fabrika and New Port > Old Port. Fabrika and Old Port are the two central bus stations of the island. You can buy the tickets directly from the bus driver - keep in mind that they only accept cash, though.
An alternative way to reach the main town is the seabus. It connects the New Port with Mykonos town, its station lies on the port and the vessel is wheelchair accessible. Taxis are also available at the port, but due to the thousands of tourists arriving, especially during the high season, it’s almost impossible to catch one.
Booking a transfer service or renting a car guarantees fast and convenient leaving. Car rental agencies can bring your vehicle to the port premises upon request so that you can use it immediately.
Note that several hotels offer a shuttle service to guests, so make sure to contact your accommodation in advance.

• How can I get to the beaches?

A car rental allows you to visit the maximum number of beaches since the island boasts a lot of secluded beaches except for the famous and vivid ones. Nonetheless, if you are interested in visiting the most popular beaches, a water taxi departing from the Old Port in Mykonos Town can take you to Super Paradise, Paradise, Paraga, and other well-known shores.
Bus routes to several beaches such as Psarou, Platis Gialos, and Kalafatis beaches are available, too. You’ll have to take the bus from Fabrika or the Old Port, depending on your destination.
Taxis can also be found in Mykonos Town, however catching one is challenging, especially during the high season.

• Can I rely on public means of transport?

The bus network heads to several spots on the island and itineraries are frequent, especially during the summer. You can reach all touristy destinations via bus. Water taxis are a great alternative in the case of beaches since you can access some of the most famous ones via the sea. However, if you wish to explore the island and discover the hidden gems of Mykonos, a car rental is the option that will meet your needs the most.

• Are the distances between the main town and the touristy spots long?

Mykonos is a small island, so the distance to pretty much every area of the island is relatively short. However, the roads are full of vehicles and traffic occurs every day during the high season, due to the thousands of visitors on the island.
