Information about the Festivals on Cyclades islands, in Greece but also information about the festivals and panigiria on many islands of the group: All over Greece, islands, cities and even the smallest villages organize joyful feasts and festivals which are strongly connected to their traditional customs. The islands of Cyclades are the most characteristic examples to enjoy beautiful night-long celebrations with food, wine, and traditional dances. From all the feasts that exist in the Cyclades, the festivals of Panagia on August 15th are the ones standing out as they combine folklore elements with a lively atmosphere. Such feasts can be seen in Tinos, Amorgos, Santorini, Folegandros, and many other islands.
August 15th is the most important religious day in Greece and the Greek islands. That day, many churches on Cyclades islands celebrate with a Holy Mass early in the morning. In the evening, a public holiday in the village square follows, where people dance together, drink wine and taste local dishes. On this day, there are panigiria on all the islands of Cyclades as there is a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary on every island. The largest celebrations take place in Tinos, as Virgin Mary of Tinos is considered the protector of Greece, in the church of Panagia Ekatontapyliani in Paros and the Monastery of Hozoviotissa in Amorgos.
Easter celebrations are special on all Greek islands. Easter holidays in Syros, Mykonos, Santorini, and Paros are particularly popular. Every year, the Greek Easter is on a different date (movable feat) but usually, it takes place in Easter.
