Location: Agios Vasileios

Agios Vasileios Church is a picturesque seaside church on the way to Perdika, just 3 kilometers south of the main port. Made of stone, it is so small it looks like a painting. Though it is normally closed, many weddings and christenings take place here thanks to its spacious courtyard and the shade provided by a lush palm tree. It is a spot loved by the local people and the visitors of Aegina, as it affords stunning views of the sunset, and it was right here that scenes of the 1958 Greek film A Holiday in Aegina were shot.

The church can be reached by a road that starts at the Kapodistrian Orphanage (the island’s penitentiary from 1880 to 1985). It is located within a few meters from the house in which Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias lodged and the historic Oikia Karapanou, one of the most beautiful mansions on the whole island.
