Thassos Sights & Attractions

This is where the fleet of the island used to moor in ancient times. Today it is a picturesque neighborhood to stroll around and to have your coffee by the sea.

Ancient Agora includes the remains of the ancient town of Thassos. There are the ruins of temples and sanctuaries, an odeum, a theatre, and the Acropolis. It is located on a hill above Limenas.

During the antiquity, Aliki was a kingdom with a large population and a big port.

The ancient theatre was constructed in a natural cavity on the hill in Limenas. It was excavated in 1921 by the French Archaeological School.

This is an old monastery with interesting architecture, located on a hill above Livadi. It has been built on top of a cliff and the view from up there is captivating.

This museum is situated in a two-storey traditional building in the heart of Theologos. The first floor shows objects related to industries and traditional professions and the second floor is a reconstruction of a traditional house in Thassos.

This small museum is located in the village of Potamia, next to the church. It is dedicated to the sculptor Polygnotos Vagis, who was born in Potamia, emigrated in America and became an established artist. The museum displays realistic and abstract works of the sculptor.

The sanctuary is actually a man-made cave. It is believed that it used to be a worshipping place dedicated to Pan, a satyr with skills at playing music.

Evraiokastro is located in Limenas, near the Acropolis and the ancient theatre.

Kalogeriko is located on the harbor of Limenas. It is a two-floor building of the 19th century. It hosts the municipality of Thassos but also hosts cultural events.

The ancient site is dedicated to Selene (Selina), the goddess of the moon.

The circular tower of Thimonia is the largest tower in the island and it is situated on the top of a limestone hill.

The church of Agia Paraskevi, situated in Theologos, is among the oldest on Thassos. Made of stone and tiles, this church hosts a unique icon of Virgin Mary. The icon is made of wax and mastic and it is considered a work of Apostle Luke.

Tarsanas is located in the centre of the harbor in Skala Potamias and hosts cultural events.

The Dragon Cave is also called Drakotrypa. The cave is full of stalactites and stalagmites. In fact, it was named after a stalactite that has the shape of a dragon.

This museum is located in the second biggest town of Thassos, Limenaria. It exhibits utensils of daily use, tools, traditional costumes, photos, ceramics and more.

The ancient Odeion (conservatoire) is connected with the ancient Agora.

The citadel of the ancient and medieval city of Samos. Lengthy stretches of the northern wall are preserved, as well as the ancient theater on the southern slopes. The acropolis is also known as the "castle of Polykrates."
