Patmos Skala

General information

Skala Village Patmos: Skala is the largest settlement and the main port of Patmos located right at the centre of the island and 5 km from Chora. The charming settlement is built around the lovely port and constitutes the commercial and trade center of the island. The village flourished during the 19th century at the time where many wealthy families settled down. Over the years, following the growth of tourism many new houses, hotels and businesses have been constructed.

Some of the sights in Skala are really worth seeing. Among them is the 17th century Church of Agia Paraskevi of Cavos, the ruins of an ancient acropolis, the church of Panagia Koumana and the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. The lovely islet of Petrokaravo is right opposite Skala and is only reachable by boat.

Most of the picturesque taverns, restaurants, a large variety of shops, Greek cafes, bars and nightclubs are found in Skala as well as accommodations. Regular buses connect Skala with the rest of the island and boats offer daily excursions to the secluded beaches and nearby islets of Patmos.

    Tiny and quiet Skala
Skala is the port of Patmos, where the ferries arrive and many fishing boats moor. It is actually a tiny village with many tourist facilities, though. If you come on Patmos after busy islands like Mykonos or Kos, then you will probably be disappointed as it is a truly quiet island. However, if you are looking for some peace in your vacations like we do, then Patmos it is! Skala is a nice place to stay as there are many accommodation options and taverns with great food. For me, Petrokaravo tavern has many delicious local recipes and Art Cafe has the greatest view in Skala. For close beaches, try Agriolivado, Meloi and Hohlakas.
