More about Skala
Over the years, following the growth of tourism, many new houses and accommodations have been constructed, while the central square teams with life during the summer months thanks to its nice cafes. Scattered around the seafront and the quaint alleys, visitors will also find traditional taverns and lounge bars, as well as a number of shops reflecting the island’s folk and religious traditions.
There are also a few sights which are really worth seeing. Among them are the 17th-century chapel of Agia Paraskevi, the ruins of the ancient acropolis of Kastelli, Panagia Koumana Monastery and the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. Excursion boats also leave for the lovely islet of Chiliomodi, which is right opposite Skala and is well worth a visit.
Regular buses connect Skala with the rest of the island and boats offer daily excursions to the nearby islets and to such secluded beaches as the lovely Psili Ammos.

elisaty 25 Oct 2008Tiny and quiet SkalaSkala is the port of Patmos, where the ferries arrive and many fishing boats moor. It is actually a tiny village with many tourist facilities, though. If you come on Patmos after busy islands like Mykonos or Kos, then you will probably be disappointed as it is a truly quiet island. However, if you are looking for some peace in your vacations like we do, then Patmos it is! Skala is a nice place to stay as there are many accommodation options and taverns with great food. For me, Petrokaravo tavern has many delicious local recipes and Art Cafe has the greatest view in Skala. For close beaches, try Agriolivado, Meloi and Hohlakas.
