General information

Lagoudi is one of the most beautiful mountainous villages in Kos, lying one kilometer west of Asfendiou. It is situated at an altitude of 240 meters atop the slope of Mount Dikeos. The village is surrounded by enchanting landscapes full of lush greenery and vast plantations and retains much of its rural character. It is home to about 300 inhabitants, most of whom are engaged in farming.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Zia is perhaps the landmark of the village, featuring a stunning white-blue dome. Just outside Lagoudi, you will find the beautiful church of Agios Ioannis Theologos which stands on massive rocks and is surrounded by the ruins of a Byzantine fortification. At a short distance from the village also lies the small church of Prophet Elias built on top of a nearby hill.

Visitors of Lagoudi can spend a day walking down the cobblestone alleys and admiring the old houses, which are in line with the traditional architecture of Kos. On the main street of the village, several shops are selling handmade products, from souvenirs to spices and local delicacies. There are a few rooms available for accommodation as well as some traditional taverns and classic Greek cafes (kafenion) serving delicious treats and refreshing beverages.
