The main port of Naxos (JNX) can be found on the western side of the island, in the main town (Chora), near the signature local landmark Portara.
Its location is very convenient, since the Town area is full of all kinds of tourist facilities.
It is one of the busiest Cycladic ports and during the high season, it can serve around 25 passenger ferries per day, as well as yachts and other vessels.
Daily ferry crossings connect the port of Naxos to numerous other destinations, including the ports of Athens (Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio), Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Syros, Crete (Heraklion) and more.
Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, SeaJets, Fast Ferries, Golden Star Ferries, Small Cyclades Lines and Minoan Lines are the ferry companies that operate these routes by using either conventional ferries or modern high speed vessels. Daily ferry crossings to most destinations are available during the summer season and at least a few times a week during the off-season months.
How to get there
For those travelling on a budget, buses are the best way to move around. You will find the KTEL bus terminal station outside the port and from there you can take a bus to numerous other locations all around the island. You can purchase your ticket at the ticket office and if you would like to know more about bus timetables, routes and pricing, visit the official website or call (+30) 22850 22291.
Keep in mind that several bus routes are only seasonal. There is luggage storage underneath all KTEL buses, which you can use free of charge.
Another option is to get a taxi. It is fairly easy to find one, since a taxi stand is located at the port, although availability may be limited during the high season and you may have to wait for a while. Taxis can get you anywhere you choose but the longer the ride is, the higher the price will be.
Pre-arranged private transfers are always better than searching for a taxi and hoping for the best. Check out our transfer booking engine and insert any pick-up and drop-off location in order to have a driver waiting for you as soon as you arrive.
Alternatively, renting a car or other vehicle is not only one of the most convenient ways to get away from the port, but you will also be able to use it for the rest of your vacation to get to any place you wish without having to rely on buses or taxis. Rent a car online in advance and arrange a pick-up at the port or find some of the island’s best car rental companies.
It is good to know that numerous hotels offer shuttle service to & from the port. If you would like to arrange a port transfer, contact directly your hotel of choice.
Most of the time, transfers are offered for extra charge but in some cases, they may be available for free.
A few minutes walk is all it takes to reach the lively center of Naxos Town from the port.
All kinds of facilities are available in this area, from hotels, boat rental facilities and car rental offices to shops and restaurants.
