Rethymno Geropotamos: Geropotamos beach is a beautiful cove located 18 km east of Rethymno town right off the National Highway that leads to Heraklion. The beach lies beneath Geropotamos bridge and can be easily accessed by car.
The waters are clean but deep and is not so safe for children. The seashore is mostly sandy, but also pebbled in some areas. In summer, the beach is affected by northern winds, the so called meltemia, which is a frequent phenomenon especially during the summer in Greece.
It is partly organized, mostly you will see a few umbrellas made of palm trees. A few hotels are found close by and ever fewer taverns. This beach owes its name to Geropotamos river, which flows into this sea.
