General information

Located 30 km northwest of Agios Nikolaos, Milatos is a lovely fishing village with picturesque seaside taverns where you can savor fresh fish and seafood dishes. Though close to the tourist resorts of Sissi and Malia, it remains peaceful and traditional.

Milatos is surrounded by verdant cliffsides, lush vegetation and a lovely beach within a couple of kilometers from the village. Close to the settlement lies the historic cave of Milatos where 2,000 Greeks sought refuge from the Turks in 1823. When someone betrayed their location, they were all slain after a 15-day siege. The cave is, today, open to visitors and a small chapel has been constructed inside it.
