The beautiful verdant landscapes are ideal for the harvesting and production of many fine local products of Skiathos, most of which are deeply connected with the island’s cultural heritage.

Viticulture has been highly developed since ancient times and the wines of Skiathos are known for their good quality and heavenly taste. The most famous wines are the dark red Skiathian wine which is among the best of its kind, the Moscato wine made of various grapes and boasting a sweet floral taste, and the wine variety known as alypiako.

The abundance of pine trees on the island creates the perfect conditions for the production of honey. Honey from pine trees is infused with many different herbs that afford it a special dark color and unique aroma. High-quality olive oil is produced throughout the Sporades and Skiathos is no exception, having gained notoriety for its fruity olive oil that possesses high nutritional value.

When in Skiathos, one should not miss out on trying one of its many mouth-watering desserts. Aspro (White) is a local spoon sweet, made with finely chopped almonds, syrup, and lemon that are mixed thoroughly until they turn into a beautiful shade of white. The Greek favorite baklava is among the most popular desserts, made with the island’s delicious honey and in two varieties, one with almonds and one with walnuts. Other delectable treats include hamalia, which are triangular pancakes filled with walnuts and honey, and the traditional macaroon biscuits known as amygdalota.

Seafood lovers will be delighted by the variety of fish dishes available on the island, with many seaside restaurants serving the fresh catch of the day from local fishermen. Other popular dishes include the rolled cheese pie and the famous hortopita, a pie consisting of various greens mixed with herbs and feta. Many alcoholic drinks are also produced on the island, including tsipouro, ouzo, and various liqueurs made from walnuts and cherries.
