Skiathos Tsougrias beach

General information

Lying opposite Skiathos Town, Tsougrias is the biggest of the verdant islets close to Skiathos. Vegetated with lush pine forests and other kinds of trees, it covers just 1.14 square kilometers and boasts landscapes of extraordinary natural beauty. Despite its small size, it has as many as four wetlands which are home to a great number of bird species, while its coastline is dented by four magical sandy beaches with pristine waters that take on a palette of mind-blowing hues.

Two of these beaches are partly organized with a few umbrellas, but, otherwise, they remain completely unspoilt and there is plenty of room for visitors to lay down their own equipment. The most impressive beach stretches on the northern edge of the island, and is surrounded by cerulean waters on three sides! Bear in mind that Tsougrias is a great place for snorkeling too, so if you feel like exploring its underwater beauties, don’t forget to bring along a mask.

On the western side of Tsougrias, perched on top of a steep rock, there is a small stone-built chapel dedicated to Saints Florus and Laurus. As it seems poised in mid-air, it looks quite impressive and the fishermen commonly call it the “cliff church”. If you come to Tsougrias, don’t miss the chance to hike up to this picturesque chapel.

Reaching Tsougrias is very easy, as excursion boats leave from Skiathos Port and the pier of Ahladies daily during summer.

Bonus info: According to the locals, the Beatles visited the island of Skiathos in the 1960s and were so enchanted by the verdant Tsougrias and its fairy-tale coastline that they persistently tried to purchase the islet.
