GENERAL INFORMATION

Aegina, the island of pistachio and the Temple of Aphaia, is almost an hour away from Piraeus by ferry, which is why it is one of the favorite destinations of Athenians for short excursions!

Its capital, Aegina Town, presents neoclassical buildings, while the port is full of traditional wooden boats; those two are largely in charge of the island's capital picturesqueness. Like in most Greek islands, the capital is also the center of activities and life, with all types of establishments situated across it. The promenade is full of cafeterias and bars, offering unparalleled views of the lovely port and the cerulean sea. There are stores of all kinds, too, including those selling pistachio, pistachio by-products and other local products; of course, the area does not lack clothing shops, jewelry shops, gift shops and other types of shops.
In summer, the coastal resorts welcome thousands of people, who wish to stay closer to the sea. Agia Marina is the most famous resort, thanks to its long and well-organized beach as well as for the options it offers in terms of nightlife. Souvala is similar to Agia Marina, but a bit more calm; the same applies to Perdika.

When it comes to price, Aegina is considered quite less expensive than other Saronic Islands, like Spetses and Hydra. Many accommodations are affordable, even during the high season, the period when prices are their highest. Travelers who don't seek opulent accommodations but rather a neat place with basic amenities will definitely not be disappointed with the island! Some more deluxe places, like villas and hotels with swimming pools, are also part of the tourist infrastructure, though.

Some of our team's personal favorite selections are Nikolaou Residence in Town and Angelina in Perdika.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

When should I book my hotel?

We recommend booking your stay at your earliest convenience. If you want to visit during the high season (June - September), we recommend having your reservation completed by the middle of May.

Where should I book my hotel?

Greeka.com is an online traveling guide about Greece and the Greek islands that has been operating since 1999. We have hand-picked the best hotels on the island and have included them and presented them on our website. By clicking the “Book online” button, you will either, in case of affiliate links*, be redirected to Booking.com and booking.com will handle your reservation or in case of sponsored links, you will be redirected to the official hotel website, where the hotel will handle the reservation. In both cases, there is no extra fee charged to you for this. *Booking.com pays a small commission to us for every booking which helps us to continue our qualitative work and provide you with the best possible information.

Is there another way to make a hotel reservation?

You can contact the hotel by phone or e-mail. In some cases, you might find some cheaper prices, but it is not recommended.

When is the best time to visit Aegina?

June, July, August and September are the busiest months, as the weather is hot and sunny. If you want to avoid crowds, May and October will work best for you.

Will I find last-minute availabilities?

Most certainly not, especially if you plan on visiting in July or August. Most of the time, people who plan on visiting Aegina book accommodation approximately 2 months in advance.

What types of accommodation are available in Aegina?

Most accommodations in Aegina are hotels and houses that have been constructed or renovated in a way that they are harmonized with the island's landscape. Therefore, Aegina does not offer luxurious 5-star and all-inclusive hotels with ample facilities. Lovely 4-star hotels and -key accommodations as well as villas are the most opulent options available.

Is Aegina expensive?

Aegina is considered a moderately priced destination; it can not be characterized either as very cheap or as quite expensive.

How much does accommodation cost?

Two people visiting the island during the tourist season are expected to spend between 60 and 120 euros for a one-night stay.

Where is the best place to stay if you are traveling on a budget?

Villages outside Aegina Town tend to be more inexpensive. We recommend searching for accommodation in the coastal resorts, like Agia Marina, Perdika, and Souvala, or even less-known villages.

Which are the best luxury hotels?

No luxury hotels are available on the island. The most expensive options include 4-star hotels, 4-key accommodations, and villas.
