The cog railway, also known as Odontotos, is one of the most popular attractions in the area of Kalavryta. It travels through the magnificent natural environment of Vouraikos Gorge and passes by the old Mega Spilaio Monastery. Its route takes approximately one hour.
Odontotos dates back to the 19th century, as its construction started in 1889. Due to lots of difficulties of that time, such as the inaccessible ground and the inadequate technical resources, it was a highly demanding project, which is believed to be a constructive breakthrough even in our time. Moreover, raw materials from the surrounding area, such as wood and stone, were used for its construction, leading to a fine result that perfectly blends with the whole setting, without also harming the ecosystem.
