Meganisi is a small but extremely beautiful island with a strong sense of traditional customs. Locals organize some great feasts to honor the saints of the island.
Religious feasts & festivals
On the 15th of August is the feast day of Virgin Mary. After the litany of the icon, there is a large gathering with food, wine and traditional dancing.
Another feast that attracts many visitors is the 21st of May, celebrating Agios Konastatinos and Agia Eleni. Locals organize a rich open table with the best delicacies which are served to visitors.
The Feast of Sardines is held in the square of Vathi Meganisi in July. This festival is celebrated every year with the accompaniment of traditional orchestra. Roasted fish and local wine are offered as part of this celebration. As the name suggests, Sardines is the main dish in the festival.
