The island of Leros is characterized by its great folklore tradition which is revealed in the majority of religious feasts and festivities organized in the villages of Leros once a year. These celebrations are held in honor of the patron saints where old customs and age-old traditions are revived. They feasts include food, drinks and traditional dances that can go on till the early morning hours.

Religious feasts & festivals

August 15th
On the 15th of August, glorious celebrations take place in Leros for the feast day of Virgin Mary, one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar. Thousands of pilgrims arrive in Leros that day, at the church of Panagia of Kastro, the patron saint of the island, in Platanos village.

July 17th
One of the major events in Leros is the feast of Agia Marina on July 17th. This celebration lasts for two days.

Cultural events

Wine Festival
On the first two weeks of August, a wine festival is held in Xirokambos Leros, an ideal place to taste some Lerian wine. At the same time, you can enjoy traditional dances and local musicians of Leros.

Alindia Festival
Every August, the Municipality of Leros organizes the Alindia festival. Visitors will enjoy some athletic and other cultural events.
