Karpathos Finiki

General information

Finiki is a lovely coastal settlement located just 2 km north of Arkassa. Founded by local fishermen around a natural bay, the village served as the island’s main commercial port up until the 20th century. Today the scenic port sees much less activity but still hosts small fishing boats from Arkassa, Piles, Othos, and Pigadia.

Traditional white-washed houses line the streets of the village, while the seaside location and mountainous backdrops create an enchanting atmosphere. The wooden boats at the picturesque port adorn the entire settlement and right next to it is the beautiful Finiki Beach, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. One of the things that Finiki is best known for is its fish taverns, which serve local delicacies and delicious meals. Those passing through the rustic village should make a note of visiting these establishments and enjoy the freshest seafood including the catch of the day supplied by local fishermen.

The chapel of Agios Nikolaos lies atop a rugged hill overlooking the village. Distinguished by its white exterior and light-blue dome, it houses a collection of religious icons and gold-plated relics. Climbing up to Agios Nikolaos is very much worth it, as its idyllic location provides some amazing panoramic views of the settlement and the sea. In the main square of the village, there is a small monument in memory of the seven Greek sailors who traveled to Egypt to inform the banished Greek government of Karpathos’ liberation.

Finiki boasts plenty of tourist facilities and modern amenities for all visitors, including various accommodations. However, its serene atmosphere and traditional character remain, making it an excellent choice for a tranquil summer vacation, especially for families.
