Location: Mikri Vigla

The area behind Sahara beach features rocks carved and shaped by the sea. The spot is easily reachable and very photogenic.

One can climb on the rocks and wander around admiring these nature-made sculptures while enjoying the beautiful sea views.

Some detached parts might even resemble prehistoric menhirs! Tiny rivers and lakes are also formed when water gets trapped after a storm or a big wave.

Note: After visiting the area, you can go for a swim on the nearby sandy cove of Kavos. The beach is an almost secret spot, ideal for relaxation.

How to get there

The rock formations are located on Mikri Vigla (Sahara) Beach.

Private transfers: We recommend using an online pre-booked transfer service, which provides transfer by taxi, minibus, or private VIP car and arranging a pickup directly from the port, airport, or your hotel. Alternatively, there’s the option of arranging a pickup by a local driver directly at the following numbers: 0030 22850 25835, 0030 22850 24829, or booking your taxi online.

Car rental: There's the option of renting a car and picking it up directly from the airport, port, or your hotel. Using a rental car allows visitors to discover the rock formations in Mikri Vigla and many other places of interest at their own pace.

Public transport: The central bus station of the island is located at the Port of Naxos. There are several buses from Chora to Mikri Vigla during the day. Consider that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here. Lines 1 and 3 reach Mikri Vigla.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.
