General information

Located 11 kilometers north of Agios Nikolaos, the capital of Lassithi, Schisma Eloundas or Elounda Beach is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches in Crete, being awarded a Blue Flag nearly every year.

Stretching right in front of the main settlement, it is a sandy beach with crystalline light-blue waters that are nearly always calm, as they are sheltered by a lovely natural bay that looks like a lagoon. It is well-organized with many sundecks, umbrellas and water sports facilities, while provisions have been made to make it accessible to people with mobility impairment as well. Visitors will also find a beach volleyball court and a playground for children. Along the beach, there are also many accommodation options and taverns, where you can have a delicious meal while enjoying the great views of Elounda Bay and the Spinalonga islet.

    Excursion to Spinalonga
Elounda is a nice beach, just like all the other beaches of Crete. It has many coffees around and great taverns with low prices. In fact, I believe the cheapest taverns in Crete are in Elounda. We ate in three taverns there and paid no more than 40 euros, 5 people. From Elounda, take the boat and go to Spinalonga. Nice daily excursion. Spinalonga was a castle and a place for the lepers until some decades ago.
