General information

Itanos Beach is located 96 km east of Agios Nikolaos, 26 km east of Sitia and just 8 km north of Palm Beach Vai. Named after the ancient city of Itanos that resides in the area, it consists of three small, picturesque beaches.

The first beach lies in front of the parking area and is small and sandy, with a few tamarisk trees throughout. The second beach boasts a mix of sandy and pebbly shores and some palm trees surrounding it. The third and perhaps most beautiful is the northern beach, with golden sand and crystal clear waters, as well as some secluded spots.

The region is pretty secluded and untouched by tourism, making the beaches very peaceful and relaxing. They are, however, not well-organized, so visitors should come prepared with any amenities they might need, including water. It is also worth noting that part of the ancient city of Itanos has been discovered underwater, and those with the right equipment can have a unique experience snorkeling above the ruins. To visit the destination, drive to the archaeological site and park there. Short trails will then lead you directly to the beaches.
