General information

Hersonissos Beach is located at Limenas Hersonissou, 24 kilometers east of Heraklion Town. It is a narrow, well-organised sandy beach, with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as cafes and restaurants on the promenade that lines the coast.

This beach serves as the main swimming spot for those staying at Hersonissos further inland, which is one of Heraklion’s most popular resorts, so it is fairly busy. Getting to the beach is easy, but the surrounding streets are usually crowded, as Limenas is built right up to the promenade.

Wrong information

This Taverna is in the port of Hersonissos in the province of Heraklion. It does not open all year, only the summer. I live around the corner from here, and the owners are friends. The food is brilliant and that is an unbiased opinion. They became friends because of the quality of their food and their filoxenia

Very tourist place

Hersonissos is one of the most tourist places in Crete. Its location is perfect for excursions and the village offers all amenities. The beach close to the village is excellent, although it gets very crowded in August. We go to Hersonissos for three years in the row and we were impressed that this year most tourists were Germans and Russians. Along the beach, there are many beach bars and taverns. My advice: rent a car for three four days and make excursions in the areas around Hersonissos, in particular Heraklion, Malia, Agia Pelagia and Sissi. If you don't like crowds, there are many quiter beaches close by.
