Chania (Souda) Port

Chania Port is also called the Port of Souda or the New Port of Chania. It is located in the northern-central part of the Chania municipality, only 6.5 km southeast of Chania Town and 14 km from the airport.
The only passenger ferries arriving directly at Souda Port are the contemporary ones connecting Chania to the port of Piraeus, though a handful of ferries stop by Souda as part of a longer route!

Souda Port is usually busy only during the summer months when itineraries are much more frequent! It is one of the safest ports in Greece, and it also hosts a plethora of cruise ships throughout the season.

Direct ferries are only available between Chania and the port of Piraeus in Athens.

KTEL Buses

One of the main options is taking a KTEL bus to Chania Town. Buses are by far the most cost-efficient way to move around Chania! Bus line number 13 connects the port of Souda with Chania Town every hour (starting from 1.20 per single ride), whereas another bus passing by Souda takes you to Rethymnon and the airport of Chania. Both options take about 24 minutes to reach Chania Town.
Note that there are no night buses during the low season and only a few nighttime routes in the summertime. For more information, contact Chania KTEL buses: (+30) 28210 98115, (+30) 28210 93345.

Car Rentals

If you would like to have your own car in order to move around, car hire is very convenient and the companies usually offer numerous pick-up locations, including the port. Cars are not the only option though; you will be able to rent various types of other vehicles, such as ATVs, scooters, and more! It is recommended that you avoid last-minute rentals.

Taxis

Taking a taxi is also a possibility and probably the most preferred means of transport at night. Each taxi allows up to 4 passengers and they will take you to any location, but keep in mind that the longer the ride, the higher the price. To arrange a pick-up with a local driver in advance, you can call the radio taxi services of Souda: 0030 28210 89555
For example, a taxi ride from Souda Port to Chania Town is around 20 minutes, whereas more distant destinations like Platanias (approx. 20 minutes away), Kolimbari (approx. 25 minutes away), or Kissamos (approx. 40 minutes away) can easily be reached with a taxi, too!
Another option, if you prefer privacy and increased safety over grabbing a taxi, would be to book a pre-booked private transfer in advance and have a driver wait for you at the port.

Note: Many hotels offer a shuttle service to their guests. Make sure to contact your hotel in advance to arrange a transfer if such a service is available!

Facilities

At Souda Port, you will find ticket offices where you can get your pre-booked tickets if your company does not propose web check-in or buy them on-site.
There are ATM machines, a taxi station, car rental facilities, and yacht or boat rental facilities.
In addition, multiple bus stations are located near the port.
In the area around the port, you will find a few taverns and restaurants along with some accommodation options since Souda is a large village with an estimated over 6 thousand residents!

Kissamos Port

The port of Kissamos (also known as Kavonisi) can be spotted in northwest Chania, 41 km west of Chania Town and 59 km away from the nearest airport.
Passenger ferries that reach the port of Kissamos include routes from the port of Piraeus in Attica, Gythio in the Peloponnese, and the islands of Kythira and Antikythira, most of which have frequent itineraries during the summer season!
Furthermore, Kissamos offers local connections to the stunning beaches of Balos, Falassarna, and Elafonisi!

Kissamos Port is mostly known for hosting many tourists in the summer, whereas some locals prefer it for its proximity to the western shores of Crete.
